Not totally clear it has a yellow tone
It is clear, however the application of a clear product that absorbs into the wood will change the appearance of the wood. We recommend testing in an inconspicuous area before full application if this is a concern.
For previously finished surfaces, we recommend doing an absorption test on the wood by dripping some water on the surface of the wood. If the water absorbs into the wood, this product can be used. If it beads on top of the wood, the current finish is good and this product should not be used without removing the current finish.
I would not use a semi transparent on Smart siding, but the Maximum solid stain would be OK to use. For more information, please call 1-800-441-9695 to talk to a specialist.
This product needs to be able to absorb into the wood. You can test this by sprinkling water on your deck and observing the droplets on the existing coating. Your surface is: Ready to stain: If the water absorbs into the wood within about 10 minutes or the wood darkens in color, the wood is porous enough to accept the new stain or sealant. Not ready: If the water beads up on the surface and does not absorb, the old finish needs to be removed (stripped) or you must wait longer before applying a new product. Applying new stain to a non-absorbent surface will result in poor penetration and adhesion.
Thank you for reaching out! This product can be applied in several ways depending on your project. For brushes, we recommend our deck brushes: that can be found here: https://www.olympic.com/products?product_type=applicators Fence: Apply with a 3/8"" nap roller and immediately backbrush using a stain brush on an extension pole. Pump spraying with backbrushing is also an option, but for large projects, it may require extra pumping effort. Deck: Apply using a pump or airless sprayer, then backbrush with a 4"" deck brush on an extension pole. Furniture: Use a stain brush, following the wood grain for best results. Rails/Spindles: Apply carefully with a 2"" brush for precision. The most important step is proper surface preparation to ensure a lasting, penetrating finish. If we can assist further with your project, please don’t hesitate to contact us at techservicerequests@ppg.com or 1-800-441-9695.

Apply when no precipitation is expected for 8 hours, and when air and surface temperatures are 35°F to below 120°F (2°C to 49°C) and will remain above 35°F (2°C) for the next 24 hours.
Yes, this can be applied with a high quality brush, paint / stain pad or by spray equipment. When spraying, always back brush for best results. To help avoid lap marks, apply to only a few boards at a time, and maintain a wet edge.
