A Metildopa é um eficaz agente anti-hipertensivo, capaz de reduzir a pressão arterial tanto na posição deitada quanto na ereta. Raramente ocorre hipotensão postural sintomática, hipotensão de exercício e variações diurnas da pressão sanguínea. Mediante ajuste posológico pode-se prevenir a hipotensão matinal sem sacrificar o controle da pressão vespertina.
