OVERVIEW

The Bridgestone Potenza RE050A I RFT (*) is a high performance, summer tire manufactured for passenger vehicles. This is the original equipment tire of select BMW vehicles.

This tire has great summer weather traction, in other words it grips the road excellently in wet and dry weather thanks to the asymmetric tread design. The model is not recommended for use in winter conditions, as the tire compound loses its road gripping ability in the colder months. The tire's circumferential and lateral grooves disperse water from under the footprint and resist dangerous hydroplaning situations.

The tire was manufactured using run flat technology. The model's reinforced sidewalls are about to temporarily support the weight of the passengers and the vehicle after the loss of air pressure. After a puncture or other damage which causes air pressure loss, the tire can be driven on for 50 miles and up to 50 mph. This allows the driver to arrive at a safe destination where they can change or repair the tire. Run flat tires are made for vehicles that have no space for spare tires. Run flat tires cannot be mixed with regular tires, as run flat tires are heavier. The manufacturer also does not recommend using the Potenza RE050A I RFT on the same vehicle as the Potenza RE050A RFT.

The tire offers a longer lasting and stronger tread. The L.L. Carbon, or Long Link Carbon, used in its manufacture strengthens the tire and provides a longer lasting, stronger and puncture resistant tread. The L. L. Carbon's molecular structure creates an interconnecting chain across the tire which equally distributes the forces of accelerating, cornering and braking across the entire tread area. As the driving pressure is spread uniformly across the tread, irregular tread wear is prevented. The tread is also resistant to accidental punctures and damages, such as chipping, cracking or tearing. This excellent resistance also slows down the wear rate. The tire's tread life lasts longer due to the stronger, evenly worn tread that is resistant to damages.

The model maintains its uniformity and has enhanced ride comfort due to the O-Bead structure. This structure puts a single continuous strand of cable in the bead of the tire. This enhances the tire and provides a smooth and comfortable driving experience, while also maintaining the tire's shape at high speeds. As the tire's structure does not deform under the driving pressure, it becomes easier to handle during high speed drives. The tire's O-Bead structure also reduces the road vibrations felt in the cabin of the vehicle.

The Potenza RE050A I RFT (*)'s performing ability was further enhanced with the CO-CS (Computer Optimized Component System), which combines different element into the optimal design. The tire is able to bring out its full performing ability thanks to the combination of the computer optimized casing shape, tread pattern, materials and construction. The combination of these elements ensure that the tire is perfect for high speed driving.

Manufacturers recommend changing tires every 10 years. As long as tires are properly stored before they are sold, the year of their manufacture will not shorten their service life.
