OVERVIEW

The Continental ContiSportContact 2 SSR (*) is a high performance, summer tire manufactured for passenger vehicles. This model is the original equipment tire of select BMW vehicles.

The model guarantees excellent summer weather traction. The special bionic tire compound and the asymmetric tread design enhance the dry and wet weather traction. The compound firmly grips the road surface in warmer temperatures, but it does not maintain its flexibility in colder temperatures. The wide circumferential grooves prevent hydroplaning by eliminating water from below the tire's footprint. The enhanced summer traction and hydroplaning resistance ensure safer summer weather performance.

The tire is a run flat model. It was manufactured with Continental's Self Supporting Runflat technology, that strengthens the tire's sidewalls. The stronger sidewalls are capable of withstanding the weight of the vehicle and the passengers in case of air pressure loss for a limited time. If a tire loses air pressure due to a puncture or cut, the sidewalls still allow it to be driven on for 50 miles up to the speed of 50 mph. This allows the driver to safely arrive at a destination where they can change or fix the damaged tire. These tires are manufactured for vehicles that have no space for a spare tire.

The model is easily controlled. The tread pattern's continuous ribs maintain constant road contact, boosting the steering responsiveness and driving stability. The steering is quick and precise in its response to the driver's commands, while the tire is stabilized against the driving pressure affecting the it. The model also offers a shorter braking distance. The continuous ribs generate circumferential friction to increase the braking distance, while the Advanced Mold Contour widens the footprint during braking to promote additional biting edges. The boosted controllability and braking ability ensure a safer drive.

The ContiSportContact 2 SSR (*) features twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon in their internal structure. They maintain the tire's optimal shape even under the high speed driving pressure. The optimized tire shape upgrades the high speed performing capability and allows the tire to closely follow the road surface. The better road contact decreases the road vibrations felt in the vehicle's cabin, guaranteeing a safer driving experience.

Manufacturers recommend changing tires every 10 years. As long as tires are properly stored before they are sold, the year of their manufacture will not shorten their service life.
